Artist's Comments

Here's another batch of the new charms!

You can buy these designs (including the new pixel heart design for 20% off!) online here: [link]

A few people misunderstood my comments about developing this technique, so to clarify - Laser cut acrylic jewelry has been done before and is very professional so you've most likely seen it in places like Claire's and Hot topic! But this method of double sided printing and precise aligning/laser cutting was developed by Andrew and I. If anything else similar to this exists already I haven't seen it - and I can guarantee anything that pops up after this is NOT the same method we are using : )

Again, these are NOT shrink plastic. Shrink plastic was once the best medium to do this type of artist made jewelry (if you know how to do it right)- but I was not happy with selling craft quality jewelry! No matter how good you are or what techniques you use for sealing the image - it can still crack (especially high gloss coated rings), and will bleed in damp conditions. There is no such thing as waterproof shrink plastic - only fairly water resistant at best. Most artists selling such items won't tell you that before you buy their products though.

It was embarrassing to have a disclaimer saying all that on my shop's "how to care for your jewelry" page - and of course it limited interest from wholesale buyers! I wanted to offer something more professional without losing the hand crafted touch. That is why I decided to remove all the old jewelry from my website when I redesigned it, and began working with my best friend to develop something better. Cute Plush was the first shop to offer kawaii shrink plastic jewelry and now we are the first to develop this better method : )

These new charms are completely waterproof, printed with plastic inks and laser cut to perfection. I do all of the designing, cutting and assembling myself - but the product you get is as professional as any factory made item.

For those of you interested in making charms the old way, I have a craft book about them coming out soon : )
